Meet Doug and Lexi
OTCH Topmast Wings of Travel UDX3 OMS REJH WC CCACGC
Doug and Lexie are our VVDAC members from Powell, Ohio. They live part time in Sedona and train here at VVDAC during the winter months.
Lexie is a 6 year old Golden Retriever who just loves to run, play fetch, and go swimming. Doug and Lexie have just achieved their goal of OTCH this summer in the midwest. Lexie is Doug's very first obedience and field dog, and she has gone from being a Novice A dog to receiving the highest and prestigious obedience title, the OTCH. Lexie has also achieved numerous High in Trial and High Combined scores throughout her obedience career. Doug and Lexie have had a wonderful journey together. They have gone to obedience and field trials all over the country, from Phoenix, to Oklahoma City and even to Baltimore, Maryland. |
The OTCH ACCOMPLISHMENT: --- Something to be proud of!
The OTCH titles are reserved for only the best obedience dogs as they can only be earned by WINNING through competition. Only the top finishers earn points. This is not a pass/fail competition.
Before any OTCH points can be accumulated, a dog must first have earned a minimum of a CD (Companion Dog), CDX (Companion Dog Excellent), & a UD (Utility Dog).
After earning the UD, a dog can begin earning the 100 points and wins needed. Unless there are a LOT of dogs entered, often times a third place ribbon will not actually earn any points (see charts below). Any dogs excused out of the ring cannot be counted. If two or more dogs are judged with the same score, the judge will call for a runoff if that score qualifies the teams for a placement ribbon. All runoffs are done to a Novice off leash heeling pattern. Losing a runoff can take an obedience team out of contention for any OTCH points. (See AKC’s point schedule chart below).
Section 1. Dogs that May Compete. Obedience Trial Championship points will be recorded for dogs that have earned the Utility Dog title. When a dog earns the Obedience Trial Champion title, it may continue to compete and earn points.
Section 2. Championship Points. Obedience Trial Championship points will be recorded for those dogs that have earned a first, second, third or fourth place ribbon competing in the Open B or Utility B class, according to the schedule of points established by the AKC Board of Directors. When counting the number of eligible dogs in competition, a dog that is disqualified or excused from the ring by the judge will not be included.
Requirements for the Obedience Trial Champion are as follows:
The dog must have won:
1. 100 points
2. A first place in Utility B with at least three dogs in competition
3. A first place in Open B with at least six dogs in competition
4. An additional first place under the conditions of 2 or 3 above
5. All three first places under three different judges
Only one of the required first places may have been won at a specialty
