Jan Tomlinson and her Sheltie, Paray's Chasing That Dream (CHASE)
Meet Jan:
Jan has a BA Degree in Elementary Education from Beloit College, Wisconsin and a MA Degree in Physical Education from the University of Iowa. Her college teaching experience includes teaching physical education at Carlton College, Minnesota, The College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Along the way, she has coached swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, and cross-country skiing.
Jan returned to Wisconsin and started teaching obedience at Canine Sports & Training in River Falls. She also developed a program with at-risk teens training dogs from the local animal sanctuary. After a semester of obedience training, they took their dogs through a therapy certification and visited local nursing homes and schools.
Chase is Jan's 7th Sheltie. Jan has shown in both agility and obedience and all her dogs have had their therapy certifications. Four of them were shown at the Utility level.
Jan came to Cottonwood 8 years ago and approached the VVDAC about starting an obedience program. The obedience program has grown from one or two small classes taught in a homemade ring to four classes a week that are full. We have also graduated to three obedience rings with official ring gates! We now have several people who are showing and have earned titles on their dogs. AND, we have our popular obedience matches regularly.
Jan loves to teach and has met many wonderful people who have come through her classes. She is very thankful to have this opportunity to continue working in an area that she loves.

Chase's Celebration of Life
Those of us who knew Chase and how he partnered with Jan to bring joy to her, her students, children, ill people and all those around them we are saddened with his loss. BUT.. we need to CELEBRATE HIS LIFE and how much he did for Jan and all those who knew and whose life he touched with with joy and constant happiness.
As Jan said, he was sent to this earth on a mission. Sometimes only a few know of what that mission was but clearly he touched the lives of so many especially as a therapy dog ….. His mission was accomplished and it was time for him to move on and join friends at the Rainbow Bridge.
So many of us enjoyed and loved this happy boy and his sense of humor. Thank you Chase for all those special memories and how you accompanied and supported Jan to all of her classes, learned to love scent work and was an amazing therapy dog. Yes.. you will be missed and we celebrate your short time with us with these pictures to remember you by.
